LED is a non-invasive, light based treatment using Light Emitting Diode (LED) phototherapy technology that is used for a wide range of conditions including acne, redness and inflammatory conditions of the skin.

This makes it perfect for individuals seeking a pain free and gentle way to promote a radiant complexion and to accelerate skin healing after trauma, surgery or other cosmetic treatments.

We use the Celluma device which utilises 3 wavelengths (colors) simultaneously – Blue (465nm) Red (640nm) and Near Infrared (880nm).

The device is a large, adjustable panel which can treat multiple areas of the body if required including the face, back, hip, ankle etc.

For Best Results

It’s advised that you complete a course of treatments in close succession to each other. This will result in the best outcomes.

LED Benefits

Relaxing, non-invasive, quick, easy, no downtime and more. Dermaplaning is a great treatment that can be performed as often as every 3-4 weeks with minimal to no side-effects.

Blue Light

Being antibacterial, blue light is generally targeted at inflammatory and non-inflammatory acne, blemishes and helps to regulate oil flow.

Red Light

Stimulates the skin by increasing the body’s natural form of cellular energy (ATP) to heal and repair while flooding skin with nutrients for that pre-event glow.

Infrared

Penetrates deeper into the skin to help stimulate collagen production and has anti inflammatory and healing benefits.

LED Treatments

There are two treatment options available depending on your concerns and what you hope to acheive.

Preparing for LED

No preparation is generally necessary.

LED is safe for all skin tones and types from light to dark, oily to dry.

It is also pregnancy safe.

There are no UV rays making it suitable for those who may be sensitive to the sun, though it’s always advised to consult your medical practitioner prior to treatment.

If you suffer from epilepsy or have extreme sensitivity to light, please advise us prior to treatment.

What to expect during LED

LED treatments are non-invasive and are often described as being very relaxing.

At each appointment, your requirements and concerns will be discussed, followed by an assessment of your skin to ensure the most appropriate settings are used for each treatment.

To ensure the best results possible, the skin should be clean and dry with no products or masks present – this includes moisturisers, sunscreen and sheet masks. This ensures the LED light can penetrate effectively and have the desired effect.

LED Facial – Level 1

The treatment begins by prepping the skin by removing any moisturiser or sunscreen from the surface. The LED panel is then placed over the treatment area, sitting approx. ~5cm above the skin.

Treatment times may vary depending on condition, but on average the skin is illuminated for 10-15 minutes during which time you can simply lie back and relax.

Once the panel is removed, we then apply a moisturiser and/or sunscreen.

What to expect after LED

Healthier, smoother, more radiant skin!

Being non-invasive, the most you can expect is a warm sensation with slight temporary flushing of the skin which will fade away rather quickly.

The skin should feel comfortable, hydrated and smooth.

Results from LED treatments are cumulative. For best results, you’ll require a series of treatments.

Post Care Advice & Recommendations

With little to no adverse risks or side-effects, your day can continue as you please.

Due to non invasive nature of the treatment, LED treatments have no downtime. You can resume normal daily activities straight away.

When used in combination with Laser, Skin Needling or Chemical Peel based treatments, post care advice must be followed relevant to those treatments.

LED Light Therapy FAQs, Advice & Recommendations

Rejuvenating

Red light at 640nm accelerates cell renewal and repair, boosting collagen and elastin synthesis for smoother, firmer skin.

It is clinically proven to increase the body’s natural form of cellular energy (ATP) which in turn “kick starts” cells to regenerate faster. Red light is potently absorbed by fibroblasts increasing collagen and elastin synthesis and boosting natural hydration levels. It also improves blood flow for increased tissue oxygenation and the lymphatic systems to eliminate toxins. Red light offers immediate visible results; skin feels hydrated and plump and radiance is restored.

  • Reduces fine lines and wrinkles
  • Improves complexion, texture and tone
  • Increases natural hydration
  • Stimulates circulation & lymphatic system
  • Shrinks enlarged pores
  • Restores radiance

Blemish fighting Blue light destroys the bacteria which causes spots and helps in the prevention of breakouts.

Exposure to Blue light at 465nm interacts with the p.acnes bacteria creating a photodynamic reaction which results in bacterial destruction. It also helps to balance sebum production and improve skin clarity.

  • Blemish fighting action without irritation
  • Helps acne prone skin
  • Prevents breakouts
  • Balances oil production
  • Improves skin clarity
  • UV Free alternative for eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis

Exposure to Near Infrared light at 880nm triggers the skins anti-inflammatory processes to accelerate repair and reduce irritation and redness. Near Infrared light builds strength and integrity for compromised, environmentally damaged and sensitive skin conditions. It is also clinically effective in the treatment of age spots and hyperpigmentation.

It can also aid in pain management and relief.

  • Reduces pigmentation
  • Scar reduction and prevention
  • Relieves pain and inflammation
  • Advanced skin rejuvenation benefits
  • Minimise Rosacea
  • Relieves redness and irritation
  • Promotes healthy skin

According to research, your skin can only absorb and make use of so much light (energy) in any given amount of time.

After 15-20~ minutes, it will begin to reach a plateau and anything more than that is generally considered a waste of time and no further benefits gained.

This will vary depending on your skin concerns and treatment plan, however as a rough guide we recommend using the LED at least 1-2 two times a week, 3-4 days apart for about 6~ weeks – assuming you are trying to treat something specific.

This will give the skin the initial boost it needs and from there, we can begin to cut back the amount of sessions to about 1-2 per month for maintenance.

LED Phototherapy may provide immediate visible improvement to the skin; revitalising a dull and tired complexion and calming redness and irritation.

Results with any LED system are cumulative and a course of treatments taken in close succession is recommended for optimum results.

Regular maintenance treatments offer lasting improvement in the appearance and health of the skin.

LED Light Therapy is generally considered safe for anyone of all ages. A consultation will make sure of that.
