Bleach baths can be a real game changer for someone with eczema. And no, this does not mean bathing in pure bleach.
There is no known cure for Eczema, but there are some great options to help you manage it – and one tried and tested way of doing so is by taking Bleach Baths.
A very dilute bleach bath can yield incredible results for both adults and children suffering with the skin condition known as Eczema. Because the thickened and scaly skin makes it harder to keep out bacteria, this can lead to increased inflammation and infections. This can make living with Eczema very uncomfortable, and in some cases very painful.
A very dilute bleach bath 2 to 3 times per week may significantly improve both signs and symptoms of Eczema, and reduce the risk of infections and flare-ups. As a result, living with Eczema may become significantly more comfortable – and the visible signs of Eczema may also improve, helping to boost self-esteem.
You can find great guidelines on aad.org and the Royal Children’s Hospital website about how to prepare a bleach bath. Generally speaking, though, you’ll use approximately half a cup of bleach to a full tub of water. You’ll soak in the bath for approximately 5-10 minutes, keeping your head above water at all times.
Although it shouldn’t need to be said, we’ll say it anyway – do not apply undiluted bleach directly to the skin.
Bleach baths can be life changing for someone living with Eczema!
